ساعت جیبی همانگونه که از نام آن پیداست بمنظور قرار گرفتن در جیب افراد ساخته

شده‌است که معمولاً توسط زنجیری به جهت جلوگیری از افتادن ساعت و استفاده

مطمئن به لباس بسته می‌شوند.

این نوع ساعت تا پیش از اختراع ساعت مچی، محبوب‌ترین ساعت از قرن ۱۶ میلادی تا پس از جنگ جهانی اول بودند

از دورانی که ساعت‌های جیبی و جلیقه، جزئی از سبک پوشش مردان بودند زمان

نسبتا زیادی گذشته و ساعت‌های مچی دیجیتالی و عقربه‌ای و حتی هوشمند باعث

شده‌اند به عقیده‌ی اکثر افراد جایی برای این ساعت‌های دوست داشتنی باقی

نماند. ساعت‌های دوست داشتنی که گاهی برخی از افراد عکس همسر یا مادرشان را

They were the foremost common sort of watch from their development within the 16th century until wristwatches

became popular after war I during which a transitional design,

trench watches, were employed by the military. Pocket watches generally have

an attached chain to permit them to be secured to a waistcoat, lapel, or

belt loop, and to stop them from being dropped. Watches were also

mounted on a brief leather strap or fob, when an extended chain would have

been cumbersome or likely to catch on things. This fob could also

provide a protective flap over their face and crystal. Women's watches

were normally of this type , with a watch fob that was more decorative

than protective. Chains were frequently decorated with a silver or

enamel pendant, often carrying the arms of some club or society, which

by association also became referred to as a fob. Ostensibly practical gadgets

such as a watch winding key, vesta case, or a cutter also appeared

on watch chains, although usually in an excessively decorated style. Also

common are fasteners designed to be put through a buttonhole and worn in

a jacket or waistcoat, this type being frequently related to and

named after train conductors.
